Level 3 Award in the Safe Use of Mechanical Restraints (Handcuffs)

1-Day Course:

The objective of this qualification is to prepare learners for employment and/or to support a role in the workplace.

This qualification is aimed at learners who already hold an SIA licence or who are civil enforcement staff or community accredited safety persons. This programme covers knowledge and skills on the use of mechanical restraints in a safe and lawful manner. It covers the following content to ensure qualified learners are competent within that area of work:

• the types of mechanical restraint (handcuffs);
• the law and good practice guidelines in relation to the use of mechanical restraints;
• importance of safe working practices and how to respond to medical difficulties;
• post-incident considerations and the importance of reporting; and
• be able to safely apply and remove mechanical restraints (handcuffs) to a compliant and a non-compliant subject

Entry requirements:

To register for this qualification, learners must be 18+. As part of the entry requirements learners should have current security industry applicable physical skills e.g. physical intervention or control and restraint, however, military, police, prison service etc experience is also appropriate.

The awarding body for this qualification is Highfield.
